Occupational therapy
Occupational Therapy is the treatment of physical and psychiatric
conditions through specific activities in order to help people reach their
maximum level of function and independence in all aspects of daily life.
Patients at Lynden Hill Clinic will be assessed for underlying motor, cognitive, perceptual and interpersonal skills as well as task performance and valued roles, after illness or disability. Depending on a persons current potential for recovery impairments, the Occupational Therapist facilitates task performance by improving relevant performance skills, developing and teaching compensatory strategies to overcome lost performance skills, or combining both of these strategies, therefore improving their quality of life.
At our clinic the rooms will be fitted with the necessary assisitive equipment, according to each patients need.
Once admitted the patient will be assessed in their daily activities, such as self care and functional mobility. Assisitive equipment where necessary will be recommended or arranged. In some cases a home visit assessment may be carried out. This will lead to liasing with Social Services to arrange a “care package” on discharge.
Therefore we try to achieve safety, ease of mobility and independent performance of activities of daily living before discharge. Occupational Therapy will also create activities to increase social interaction to reduce isolation.
Fostering good communication and developing mutual trust and understanding with other professionals is essential to the role of Occupational Therapy.
